Santee City Council tentatively passes law allowing residents to keep chickens at home

SA

NTEE, Calif. — Residents of a San Diego County town may soon be allowed to keep live chickens at home, if they can pluck up the courage.

The Santee City Council voted 3-2 Wednesday to tentatively allow chickens in single-family residential zones. A final reading of the law will take place later this month.

U-T San Diego (http://bit.ly/yogb7v ) says changes in the municipal code will limit the number of chickens depending on lot size and no roosters will be allowed. Also, no commercial breeding or slaughter will be allowed and owners will have to take care of controlling noise, odor and bird waste.
