Permits available for backyard chickens


Permits for backyard chickens are now available in Hernando County.
The ordinance allows residents to up to four chickens in residentially zoned areas.
Other rules include the chickens must be kept in an enclosed area with a coop that provides free movement of the chickens. The coop must also have a roof, and be secured from predators.
A list of the rules can be found on the permit application. The permit fee is $125.
