Powell approves chickens in town
17 hours ago • The Associated Press
POWELL -- The city of Powell has a new ordinance allowing people to keep chickens inside the city limits, but part of the law might need to be scratched out and rewritten.
The ordinance approved Monday allows residents to keep up to four chickens provided none of them are roosters. They have to pay a $5 annual fee per bird and follow several rules including not slaughtering the birds in the city limits.
The four-chicken limit also applies to businesses. That could present a problem for businesses which keep large numbers of baby chicks to sell to people.
Police Chief Roy Eckerdt says the city needs to revise the new law to provide an exception for businesses.
